Endless Lines

A unique collaboration with Simone Crestani

There are lines that run without meeting and others that cross. At the point of contact, curvilinear creations take shape, interweaving life and its natural manifestations. My collaboration with Simone Crestani was born from a flight of lines—lines that escaped from sheets to become three-dimensional forms. I work with wood, allowing it to channel movement, carving into its surface to create a dialogue between solids and voids. The act of lifting and lightening adds grace, capturing the organic flow of nature within each object. Glass, shaped by fire, mirrors this process, fusing with the fluidity of the lines I carve. Together, these materials transport and transform the energy of nature into tangible expressions.

I work with ayous, also known as obeche—a wood sourced from towering trees that grow in the tropical forests of central and western Africa. These trees, reaching up to 50 meters, have strong roots and an uninterrupted grain, making them light yet resilient to heat and humidity. I waste nothing in my process; even the finest wood dust finds a new purpose, ensuring that every part of the material continues its journey.

The unique pieces in this collection mark the beginning of a journey that started in Tokyo, on a moving train. I was inspired by the rhythm of electric cables and telephone lines, their paths tracing the horizon, blending into the sky and sea. This collaboration with Simone intertwines our artistic perspectives, merging our experiences into a body of work that seeks the essence of beauty: simplicity.
